The Aztecs came to Mexico in the 12th-13th century. They had many cities mainly in the valley of Mexico. There capital was Tenochtilan. which was located right next to Lake Texcoco.
GODS: The Aztecs had many gods. There was a god for almost everything. Corn, lakes, volcanoes, family, food, etc. They believed if they didn't offer a human to the gods, the universe would come to an end. (The pic above is a picture of the Sun, Huitzilopochtli is it's name. It was the god of the Sun, and war.
Just like in many nations today the Aztec governemnt had taxes. If people commited a crime they'd have to pay a small fee, or possibly some severly punished. (Depending on crime). They had 12 emperors. The last being Cuauhtmoc, who was Emperor till the fall of the group in 1521. The Aztecs were the had the strongest military at the time when it fell.
THE FALL OF THE AZTECS: The Aztecs fell to Spanish Captain Cortez. He was first welcomed and saw as a God. But then emperor Montezuma didn't fall for this. He saw him as a threat. Eventually he learned of their secrets, way of life, and found their gold. When Montezuma asked him to leave he refused. But eventually he returned with enemies from most of the 38 conquered provinces. The Aztecs fought for days against Cortez. But with little water, and food they soon surrendered. Most died from european spread dieseases, or from Cortez's massacre after they surrendered.
The Aztecs had children of both sexes taught. They were taught at same schools, but seperated. Here they learned myths, ceremonial songs, and Aztec history. The Aztecs were also some of the early users of terraces. Which were used to keep crops from flooding.
