I closed my eyes last night with the promise of a new day My sleep was slumber, my mind was still Dreams came to take me to another place The running train of thoughts took hold Taking me through the stages of life Reaching out to touch it, almost in my grasp I tried to wake My body lie cold, my soul accompany me But the place was not the same as I left before It was new and strange, strong and fearless A place of white, with all its glory People walked all day to ponder Until their name beckon to the trial of life It was a purgatory of sorts—a waiting room I was given a book to read—the book to my life There were chapters from beginning to end Some good, some bad, some painful, and some sad Closing the book to what once was This would be my body of evidence to determine my resting place Wonderments of my legacies Did I live a good life…Did I treat others well Always assured I had time to correct my wrongs My clock stopped ticking without consult It was no time to reflect, no time to repair My sleep was Eternal Copyright 2004 ZE Harris, author
