The BEST Worst Dictator: Emperor Hirohito
But WHY?
1.
The Sino-Japanese War- Under Hirohito's reign and approval, Japan invaded Manchuria in 1931, then China in 1937. Despite EXISTING INTERNATIONAL TREATIES, the Emperor still approved the use of cruel biological weapons such as poison gas in the conflict.
2.
WWII War Crimes- Also under his reign, Japanese forces treated their POWs in an unspeakable criminal manner. MASS KILLING, TORTURE, HUMAN EXPERIMENTATION, and even CANNIBALISM were reported by surviving POWs.
3.
The Three Alls Policy- Between 1942 and 1945, Hirohito supported and promoted one mantra for the Japanese military in China: Kill All, Burn All and Loot All.
4.
Kamikaze Warfare- Hirohito approved and honored kamikaze attacks on Allied warships, which largely began after 1945. Pilots would deliberately crash their planes into their targets, and were hailed for their sacrifice.
5.
Blindness to the Suffering of his People- In an attempt to finally end World War II, the United States atomically bombed Hiroshima, instantly killing 80, 000 people and destroying two-thirds of the city. Hirohito still did not surrender, despite this blow to civilian people and territory. It took another bombing at Nagasaki to force his surrender.
