My Grandparents' Story during the War
Famous Quotes
About my grandfather: My grandfather, whose name is In Sool Yoo, was born in Pyung an buk do, North Korea, on February 14th 1925. He was the fourth child out of five. As soon as he was born, they had to move to Manchuria, China because North Korea was in Japanese occupation and his father who was my great-grandfather also worked for the independence movement for Korea. He spent his elementary to high school time in Manchuria. His family went back to North Korea in 1945 when the Japanese Occupation ended. But then North Korea was possessed by communism. In 1947 March, his family was intending to go to Seoul, South Korea but because there were too many to move together, he went down to Seoul by himself. He promised before he left that he would meet them when the country settled down, not knowing that this was the last time he would be seeing his beloved family.
So when he arrived in Seoul, South Korea, he looked for a job which could help Korea. And finally, he decided to be a police officer. In 1951, at the age of 26, my grandfather willingly volunteered to enter the army for his patriotism. He became a military officer, delivering essential supplies for the war like weapons and food. After they signed the truce, my grandfather tried to get contacts to his family who were all in North Korea. But unfortunately, he failed to get any contacts from any of his family members. While he was having a hard time, he had a good friend who was also working as a police officer with him, and then that friend introduced his sister to my grandfather. They soon got married on March 31st 1958 and had 3 children which are my mum and 2 uncles.
