A biome characterized by hot dry summers and cool moist winters and dominated by a dense growth of mostly small-leaved evergreen shrubs, that is found on coasts throughout the world.
*This biome is found in North America, Russia, Argentina, South Africa. 30 to 50 N and 30 to 40 S *Temperatures vary from -10 C in the winter and 30 C in the summer, the chaparral is characterized by cool moist winters and dry hot summers. *This biome only gets about 10-17 inches of rain all year. *Olive trees can be grown and cultivated here, and olives are a valuable agricultural resource.
*We chose this biome because it is small and unique and we wanted to learn more about it. *Blue Oak- covers about 3 million acres and is one of the largest ancient forest type in California. *Fairy Duster-The Fairy Duster is a low shrub that usually grows 8 to 48 inches tall. *Its climate and latitude determines its location. *Animals grow thick coats in the winter to shield them from the cold and shed them in the summer to deal with the heat, a lot of animals survive off of vegitation that thrives in the dry climate.
