Vampires In The South
I had just recently gotten out of jail and was spending some time with a close friend. We were up late celebrating and listening to the album Vampires In The Church by St.Madness. While the song Missing Girls Body Found was playing there came a knock on my front door. We were not expecting someone to come knocking at 3am so we proceeded to the door to find out who the culprit was. Of course the person standing at my door had to be a policeman. He was not very happy with the type of music we were playing or how loud he claimed that it was. We were told to "turn that crap down" and ask if we knew about the noise ordinance. When we both responded that we had no idea there was an ordinance the officer still wrote me a ticket. He then told us if he had to come back he was going to take us to jail.
The officer placed my trial in Pacolet which is around fifteen miles from where I live. After receiveing the ticket I enlisted the help of a friend and we found out what the noise ordinance laws in my town are. The law states that an officer needs to be dispatched so that they can access the situation and give the person a verbal warning. Once a warning has been given and the officer is requested to respond back out to the same location (within a 24 hour time period), then it could result in a citation being written. It was the first time the officer had came out and he did not give us any kind of warning before he wrote the ticket. The law also states that the person can only be fined up to $500.00. As you can see on my ticket I was fined alot more. When I went to court for this ticket I took a copy of the law with me to show to the judge. The odd thing was that I never even saw the judge. The officer say me with a stack of papers and made it a point to come up to me and pull me away from the other people waiting to see the judge to tell me that he had decided to ask the judge to drop the ticket. His reasoning was that he did not think I was aware of how loud my music was playing because I was drunk when I recieved the ticket. He knew I was drunk when he wrote it.
