International Neglect
The United States funded the Guatemalan genocide. They were strong business partners with the government, before and during the atrocity. Even during the genocide, they continue to train Guatemalan officers at the School of Americas, Georgia, that would carry the mass murder out, and the CIA even helped them with intelligence reports, gathering, and a few of the murders were on the CIA payroll. The U.S. knew that what was occurring in Guatemala was genocide and they could have reported it to the UN, yet they were content to let it happen. They couldn’t care less about ‘a few Indian commies’. In fact, the U.S. wanted it to happen, because it profited them, and protected them from the ‘communists’.
