By the end of the 20's 9 out of 10 homes had radios. Different genres were created such as daytime drama, also known as 'soap operas'. Radio shows played a wide variety of entertaining shows from comedy to these new popular dramas.
The radio was first created in 1894, however the radio did not become popular until the 1920's. The first radio news program was broadcast August 31, 1920 by a station called 8MK in Detroit, Michigan. This station is now owned under CBS. In 1912 the U.S. Navy was using radiotelegraphy's as they called them. The American public coin the term radio for short. In 1922 Edwin Armstrong invented the superheterodyne receiver which was a broadcasting breakthrough. This led to clearier broadcasts that were more amplified.
Soon enough homes everwhere in the 20's had a radio. It became popular entertainment for people everywhere. Broadcasting studios began creating radio shows of the news and entermainment variety. It became a quick way to recieve news, as well as catching one of your favorite shows to listen to after a hard day at work, and enjoy with the family.
