I looked around my surroundings, completely at ease with the green wilderness of the Epoloc forests. The feeling of aloneness felt comforting instead of scary and I relished this moment above any other, because I know it will not last. Behind me the sound of Isla did not reach me and I started to grin at the total forbiddances of what I was doing. Esa will be furious I gloated but as long as I get home before morning she will not find out. I don’t like Esa, but she is my aunty and my only family, so I am stuck with her. I plan though to be free of her soon enough, free I thought happily and I started out towards The Silara Moon Lake., where Liva waits for my arrival. As I continue walking I notice the trees become closer together and I start tripping over logs and small branches. The darkness was bright with the two silver moons, Diray and Fidla full in the sky. My favorite thing to do at night is gazing up at the moons. But this was a special night, never have the moons been full at the same time and never have they turned silver. Not in my life time anyway. In the distance shone another light, like the sun on water. The excitement in me boiled over and I started running towards it. It didn’t feel like I was getting any closer and I started to get frustrated. I am not the most patient person in world you see and more times than not, I would demonstrate my frustration out loud. My legs ached and my lungs felt like they were on fire, but I did not stop, nor did my frustration ease. “Dallannnna!” someone screeched in horror. Liva I recognized and turned to the voice. The look on her face caught me by surprise. She looked horrified and urgent. She reached for me the word no on her lips but I didn’t hear it. I had finally reached the light. I realized too late the light was reflected off from the silver moons onto the moon lakes glittering surface. And I fell straight into the cold water and into its depth. Well that’s what my body expected but instead I felt like the water had become something else, something thicker than water. I screamed and swallowed some of it. I felt changed then, like something inside me had clicked into place. Fate I laughed and more of the silver water flowed into my mouth. As if they had done what they came here for, the moons separated turning back into their original positions in the sky. The silver glare disappeared and I momentarily felt the pull of power. I don’t know how I knew it was power but I knew it more confidently then I knew apples grew on trees. Then the pull was gone and I was drowning. The feeling did not last very long because suddenly my shoulders were grasped firmly in big hands. The hands pulled me out of the water and I greedily sucked at the air only to choke and splutter. Seconds later my body thumped to the floor. And I felt my head being turned and then hands thumped me on the back pushing all the water out of my lungs. “Are you alright Dal? Please answer me” Liva cried hysterically, her voice quivering like that of a child. The sound made my heart thump; I hated it when she cried. My eyes fluttered open and I found that black spots obscured my view. A hiss came from above me and the hands left my body. That puzzled me and I focused my gaze on the hulking figure just a couple of strides away from me. “I’m alright Liv” I assured her and turned my gaze on her. She was cringing away from me like I was a venomous snake, her face twisted in horror and fright. “What?” I exclaimed frightened now. “Your eyes, they the. What did Diray and Fidla do to you?” she spluttered in awe and took a step towards me. I stared uncomprehendingly up at her and then I understood. “What’s wrong with my eyes Liva” I asked levelly and slowly got to my feet. The figure in the corner finally interrupted us with a clearing of his throat. My head jerked towards him. “Your eyes… they are silver. You have been touched by some great power” his eyes were wide like Liva’s, it would have been funny if I were in the mood, a may have laughed. “You must come with me” he announced in a sure voice that made me want to protest. “I am not going anywhere with you. How do I know if you were only here to kill me?” This was true, I didn’t know anything about him, but then again maybe fate led him here. “Very true” he agreed reluctantly. “But you do not know who I am, or” he laughed, “What I am”. My eyes narrowed on the last part and questions started popping into my head. Then Liva spoke up “Can we talk about this somewhere else?” she complained and pointed a finger at my shivering body. “Dal is obviously freezing and” she gave me such a concerned look that I forgave her when she cringed away from my eyes. “Dawn is nearly upon as. We have to go” she walked up to me then and put her arm around my waist. The warmth of her body seared right through my clothes. I shivered convulsively once. “We can talk on the way” I agreed and I staggered back through the forest with Liv’s arms supporting me. Drowning tires you out, or maybe it was all that power? I didn’t know, but I felt exhausted. I walked in between Liva and the man. But he wouldn’t walk very close to us. The man was tall, about two heads taller than me, and he wore a black tunic and pants that looked stiff like leather. His hair looked pretty shaggy and stuck up in random directions, it looked cute to me. The colour of his hair was impossible to see in the dark, but I guessed that it would be a brown or black. The sight of no beard felt strange to me because I have never seen a man without one before, unless of course they had not come into puberty yet. It made it hard to determine his age. Probably in his twenties I decided. The sight of him caught my attention so much that I hadn’t realized I was staring, I felt my face flush and I turned away quickly to avoid his gaze. But couldn’t look down for, my eyes darted towards him and I felt my face get hotter when I saw him still staring at me. “Why are you staring at me like that” I muttered. He blinked as if waking from a dream and shook his head. I wanted to laugh. “Your eyes are very alluring” he admitted sheepishly. My eyes widened a little with how bluntly he had admitted it. I felt Liva shake with laughter. “Oh, umm sorry” I mumbled, not really sorry at all. He smiled slightly, white teeth glimmering in the moons yellow light. “Ok so do you know what happened to Dal?” Liva interrupted awkwardly to the man. “Well that’s the thing…” he replied in a strangely innocent voice. “You might think this is crazy, but hear me out please. There is a sort of prophecy, about a girl who has the power of the twin moons.” I believed everything he said and I was just about to ask him if he knew what I could do when Liva’s incredulous laugh split the night. All of us jumped at the sound. “Sorry. I don’t believe it, Dal couldn’t be. I just can’t see it, it’s ridiculous.” She stared at me with a UN believing look on her face. it made me feel sad and hurt, that she didn’t think that highly of me. “Well I believe him” I said glumly and tried to pull her arms loose from my waist. She let me go without struggle. I stumbled forward and felt strong arms grab me; I pushed them away and kept going. “What is your name anyway?” I just realized he hadn’t told me and I was curious. “Hirack, just Hirack” He answered guardedly. Interesting I thought but didn’t push it. “Well thanks for saving me Hirack. This here is Liva” I pointed to Liva who was sulking now. “And my name is Dallanna, Dal for short” I finished off. “I could have saved you” Liva mumbled so low that I wasn’t sure that was what she said. I ignored her, she gets easily jealous. “Anyway… where are you staying?” he stared at me then, a little surprised. I didn’t understand why though. “Are you camping out side of the village or do you have a friend or family member who is accommodating you? “ I waved my arms at him and then out in front of me, towards the village. “I don’t have any family or friends, but my camp is not too far away.” He nodded to the left. I wanted to ask him if he wanted to stay at Esa’s house but I bit my lip. Esa wouldn’t accept it. “Would you like to stay at my home for the night?” Liva piped up enthusiastically. I turned on her then with a glare that should have killed her on the spot. She didn’t even look at me, but I saw her flinch. I promised myself that when we were alone again, we would talk. Meanwhile smoke from fire places floated up to the sky. Dawn approached quickly; I just hoped that Esa is still snoring in for straw filled bed. “If your family will be okay with it” he replied unsure. Liva almost bounced with victory. “Oh they won’t mind” She lied cheerfully, A little too cheerful. “Ah liv, it’s almost dawn, I really don’t see the point” When I turned around again, Hirack was gone.
