SCARIFICATION Scarification is a form of body art. It involves scratching, branding and cutting of the skin. Scarification isn't as popular as tatooing so it is very hard to find a person who is skilled in this method of body art. There are many dangers to scarification, for example the open wound might get infected. If a wound takes a long time to heal, it means that the scar may be more pronounced. People keep the wounds open for a long time by using chemicals or natural irritants such as toothpaste or citric acid. There are different types of ways to do scarification, these are some of them: * STRIKE BRANDING- Strike branding is just like branding animals. It is used by using a hot piece of metal which is branded onto the skin. * LASER BRANDING- This form of scarification is more precise and accurate because it is easier to make out the depth and width of the scar. Sparks jump from the device to the skin to cause skin damage. * COLD BRANDING- Cold branding is the same to strike branding, but the only difference is that strike branding is hot metal whereas cold branding is using a cold metal which is most likely used with liquid nitrogen. Cold branding will cause the hairs on the body to grow back but the colour would be white. * CUTTING- Cutting is when a sharp object is used to peirce the skin and create a mark afterwards. Some scars may not turn out perfect and may require touch-ups. Touch-ups is when a scar is missing a marking. The scar may be improved using one of the scarification methods.
