Chapter 1
In Chapter 1, Nick arrives in New York. He lives in West Egg, where the New Rich all live. There he meets Tom and Daisy Buchanan, and Jordan Baker. That night, he sees his neighbor, Gatsby, staring out across the bay at a green light. That light is on the end of Daisy's dock.
Nick Carraway Narrarator
In the books, Nick is the narrator. He honestly teels about everything the way he sees it. Also, he is a friend of Gatsby's, as well as Daisy's cousin.
IMPORTANT NICK QUOTE: If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then there was something gorgeous about him, some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life.… [Gatsby had] an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall ever find again. Nick meant that Gatsby was a hopeless romantic, but he was still a good man.
Nick is a very honest person, which I think is his best quality. However, he is extremely naive, especially at the beginning of the book.
