Rutherford's Gold Foil Experiment
Biography
In Rutherfords atomic model all of the protons are crammed inside a tiny, massive nucleus about ten thousand times smaller than the atom as a whole. So he assumed the much lighter electrons lay outside the nucleus. Rutherford sayed the atom was like a miniature solar system: the electrons circled the nucleus in wide orbits just as planets orbit the sun.
