Monastic Living
Priestly Living
The Catholic Church was the only church in Europe during the Middle Ages, and it had its own laws and large coffers. Church leaders such as bishops and archbishops sat on the king's council and played leading roles in government. Bishops, who were often wealthy and came from noble families, ruled over groups of parishes called diocese. Parish priests came from humbler backgrounds and had little education. The village priest tended to the sick and indigent, if he was able he taught Latin and the Bible to the youth of the village. As the population of Europe expanded the churches that had been built in the Roman style became too small. Some of the grand cathedrals, strained to their structural limits by their creators' drive to build higher and larger ones collapsed.
A monk is a man who is a member of a brotherhood. He devotes his life to a discipline prescribed by his order. Monks and nuns live in a monastery. A monastery is not only a church but aswell as a hospital. They take care of people, they pray and meditate in a monastery. It can also be a school for kids. teaching the kids to do stuff like read and write.
