In the animal kingdom there is a social hierarchy more distinct then any known by man. The Lions reign supreme with their very own King and Queen, and similar animals of prey compose the elite. The story I am about to tell isn’t of the strong and agile predators of sky, land, or sea; but of the smaller subjects to the throne. My story is of an ordinary field mouse named Tim. Tim was a very average mouse in size, with dull brown fur, and beady black eyes. Tim had one difference then most other mice, a shriveled ear from which he could hardly hear. Because of Tim’s ears and deficient hearing, he missed many of the lessons his mother instructed, and the warnings his neighbors gave. While the average mouse grew up afraid and meek, Tim did not. Tim strolled across the forest floor with his head held high while other mice scurried. When most mice prayed for a safe night and another day alive, Tim spent his time dreaming of adventure. He wanted to visit all of the places the pirate rats mentioned as they came through the village; the mountains past the desert where white powder covers the dirt, the ocean with air that tastes like salt, and the most spectacular sight of them all, the palace of the King and Queen. The minute Tim let go of his mother’s apron strings he set about on his adventure. His first destination was the palace to pay homage to the King and Queen themselves on behalf of all mice . As he journeyed towards the palace he came across many ferocious beasts, including the barbarian beetle and a rabid rat; he conquered each foe that crossed his path. With each victory his confidence increased, until he was calling out for challengers, accepting all that arrived. He battled worms, frogs, and other like creatures, stopping only when all called defeat. From the sky a large bird, in need of a snack, caught sight of little Tim. Tim noticed the Bird in the distance and saw that it was preparing to strike. The bird swooped down, as Tim gave a whooping battle cry; the bird swallowed Tim up in one giant gulp.
