Ukraine
Goverment On January 22, 1918, Ukraine declared independence. Ukraine is a republic. Ukraine is very similar to our government in that it has many of the branches we do . President Viktor Andriyovych Yushchenko represents Ukraine’s 46620334 people. In recent years, there has been constant debate about a new proposed constitution. Like our government there is constant debate and bickering between the aisles.
Location Neighboring countries in Ukraine include Belarus, Russia, Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland. Ukraine borders the Black Sea. The Dnipro River runs 420m from Russia through Ukraine and empties into the Black Sea. The capital of Ukraine is Kyiv. Other major cities include, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donestk.
Education Children in Ukraine go to school from the ages of 6-17 years old. The schools are state run. Everybody is allowed to go to school. Entering college in Ukraine is very competitive, like Lviv University
Economy Ukraine's economy is still recovering from the Soviet’s Union’s effects on it. Ukraine’s GDP is 340..4 billion dollars Ukraine’s currency is the Hyrvna 5.02 Hyrvna= 1dollar Ukraine has tons of natural resources. Soviet Union has exhausted many of the resources. Most of Ukraine is used for agriculture. Major exports areRussia, Turkey, and Italy Major imporst are Russia, Germany, Turkmenistan, and Italy Major crops produced are grain, sugar beats, sunflower, and vegtables Livestock raised are 7million cattle, 130.3million chicken, 894300 goats, 6.5milllion pigs, and 875200 sheep.
Arts Many women practice embroidery in the winter. Folk art pottery is slowly replacing modern pottery. Much of the literature is made to promote nationalism. In Ukraine there are plenty of onion-domed cathedrals built in the shape of a cross. Music in Ukraine has developed off of folk songs. Ukrainians have also created many unique instruments over the years. The official language of Ukraine is Ukrainian. Other languages in Ukraine include Russian, Romanian, Polish and Hungarian.
Technology Some major industries in Ukraine, are coal, electrical power, metals, transport machinery, equipment, chemicals and sugar. Ukrainians have many picnics for relaxation. Ukrainians enjoy painting and gardening on the weekends. During Easter, they make beautiful and decorative Easter Eggs. Ukrainians also love spending time partying, eating, drinking and watching their gigantic 25inch TV.
Religion Ukrainians are primarily Ukrainian Orthodox Christians. After the Soviet rule, there has been a push to restore churches and cathedrals. These Ukrainian Orthodox Christians and Ukrainian Catholics believe in most of the doctrine of the Catholic Church, except that the Ukrainian Orthodox Christians do not answer to the Pope and the Catholics do.
