Dale Earnhardt

Dale Earnhardt

The Final Lap A thrill was in the air that day As the number three flashed past Shouts and cheers rose on the wind As his car sped by so fast. The race had been so thrilling The finish line just ahead The thought did not occur to us We'd see tragedy instead. The final lap came all to soon For a hero we held dear Little did we know that day That the end for him was near. Our hearts are filled with sadness Our hero had to leave To race across the Heavens now While we are left to grieve. The gates of Heaven opened His final trophy gleaming bright He slowly gunned his engine As he drove into the light Dale Earnhardt April 29, 1951---February 18. 2001

A Tribute To My Special Hero That day I lost a legend – on of NASCAR's own You could tell of his greatness, by the races he had won. As he pulled out onto the track, a smile upon his face, It's time to rib them up, get on with the race. The fans all stood and cheered, their hearts were pounding loud, Forty-three cars were competing, weather perfect not a cloud. And on this Sunday afternoon, midst the cheer, boos, and thrills, Dale headed for the line, Daytona was real. He raced through the stretch, and headed for turn four, Not dreaming of disaster, he had been here before. He held off his competitors, protecting the one he loved, When suddenly he was rescued, by hands from up above. Oh, he was beat and banged, inside that car of black, But still those hands cradled him, as he sped up Heaven's track. He left us all to mourn him, his loss was so unreal, Gone is the intimidator, along with NASCAR's thrill. But I know you are racing, on Heaven's golden track, Racing for the Master, no way would you come back. Oh how we still miss you, each Sunday afternoon, It won't ever be the same, start your engine, we will see you soon.
