Rosalie was born November 3, 1877 in New York City. Her death was in 1962 95 years later. She grew up going to a private school in NYC for her education. Rosalie Edge Wildlife Refuge She started a wildlife refuge and she wanted to help birds and their habitats be protected. She had decided to start helping with birds after many events in her life. First she decided she was bored with her life. Then she was extremely inspired when she met Dr. Willard Van Name. She also wanted to promote conservation and get rid of corruption. In the summer 1929 in Paris, she found a pamphlet “A Crisis in Conservation” in the her hotel room. It said a well-funded bird-protection agency received money from gun manufacturers. This upset her so she vowed to do something about disappearing birds. To meet her goals Rosalie decided to sue Autobon Societies for their membership list, so she could stop corrupt wardens, clubbing pelicans to death, and destroying Yellowstone. The reasons for her goals were that she thought her lifestyle was boring and she had time on her hands and because she was interested in bird watching. hawk1.jpg
