KU KLUX KLAN
By: Clarke Berry
The first branch of the Ku Klux Klan started in Pulaski, Tennessee, in May, 1866. The local clans were organized in Nashville in May of 1867. The Ku Klux Klan was one of the most terrifying and violent groups of all time. The reason for this group was to strike fear into the African Amercian population and to spread their message of white supremacy.
When did it start and Who founded it.
The KKK was so famous due to fact that the were completely secretive. Their costumes were completely white with two eye holes and a high pointed cardboard hat. The members of the KKK were sworn into secrecy. The KKK was an immense force that they were said to have half a million members by the end of the 1960's.
The Ku Klux Klan was so important because at first their main focus was to keep African Americans from voting, but soon escalated. Black citizens were soon being dragged from their beds, tortured horribly, and in most cases murdered.
The KKK effected the Civil Rights Movement by keeping the African Americans away from the polls and as a result, that might have pointed the outcome in a different direction, which might have made a difference in what was happening in the world at that time. The KKK must have kept the African Americans from going out and making a difference on their own because they always had the fear of being murdered.
Our life today could have had a chance to be much different. If the KKK wasn't around then there would be more acceptance and less hate in the U.S. If not for the Ku Klux Klan we might be living in a hate-free country.
