Location: Selma, Alabama Enrollment: -Population: 285 -Males: 160 -Females: 127 Nickname/Mascot: Selma University's mascot is the bulldog. Selma University was founded in 1878 and the purpose was for preparation of better leaders for the church and schoolroom. At a meeting in Mobile, Alabama in 1874, the first trustees were elected - they were C. O. Booth, Alexander Butler, William H. McAlpine, Holland Thompson and H. J. Europe. The school opened four years later in 1878, in the Saint Phillips Street Baptist Church of Selma. The Saint Phillip Street Baptist Church became the First Baptist Church. The Convention voted to locate the school in Selma in 1877. In 1881, the school was included by an act of the legislature under the name of Alabama Baptist Normal and Theological School of Selma. On May 14, 1908 , the name was officially changed to Selma University .

High School Preparation: You must graduate from an accredited high school and complete three English, one mathematic, two sciences, and 3 social science; Students should submit official high school transcript, letters of recommendation, and have a physical examination.
The Majors offered at Selma University are Associate of Arts, Bible and Theology, Bachelor of Arts, General Studies, General Studies (Business Administration Concentration), General Studies (Biology and Physical Education Concentration), General Studies (Bible, Theology and Christian Education Concentration), General Studies (Bible and Pastoral Ministry Concentration, Master of Arts, Bible and Pastoral Ministry, and Bible and Christian Education. Most Popular Majors: The most popular majors at Selma University are the Master of Arts Degrees.
Athletics/Sports played: Intercollegiate sports played are men’s baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, and track. Intramural sports that are played are basketball, softball, and volleyball. Greek Life: Greek societies include one national fraternity and one national sorority. Phi Theta Kappa national honor society and one local honor society are represented on campus.

Things to do: On campus you can visit Annual activities that include Founder’s Day, Religious Emphasis Week, Freshman-Sophomore Ball, Greek and club Shows, Class Talent Shows, and the Coronation Ball. Off campus you can walk distance to the nearby shopping center and Selma University is 45 miles west of Montgomery. In 1965, the famous march for civil rights for blacks on the Pettus Bridge, led by Martin Luther King Jr., originated in the Brown Chapel Church in Selma, Alabama.
Dead line for enrollment: August 15th is the fall deadline and the spring deadline is December 15th, there is a rolling admission.
