Juliet's Lamentation before the Consummation
Dear Diary I do not understand whether to call thee dear or not because the only person who is my dear is my Romeo. But I am no longer sure because he has killed Tybalt!!! My cousin! My friend, who has looked after me all my life, since I was a swaddled babe! And by my lovers hand did he meet his death!! Oh Romeo, Romeo what have thy wrought! King of cats – dead. Not one of his nine lives did save him from Romeo. Romeo, my Romeo! What have you done! I am your wife! It is my duty to be loyal to you but how can I be loyal to you when you have murdered my kinsman. How can I look in your eyes tonight? How can I look in the eyes of the man who killed…. Tybalt. TYBALT DEAD!! By my LOVERS doing! I wish I WAS DEAD!!! No, no I do not wish that for then I wouldn’t be able to see you – but – you are banished! My lord , how are you to come here?!! I need you! I NEED you!!! My Romeo, banished!!!! I cannot live without thy. Thou art my sun! I need thee to survive all! To LIVE! Thou art my sun, Romeo. Thou banishes all the darkness from me. When thou speaks, sparkling beams of light emit from thy mouth. When thou walks; thou turnest the dark, dusty paths to gleaming sheets of light and beauty. When thou kisses me …the wonder of you is hard to hold. And how DARE Nurse besmirch Romeo’s holy brow! He is an angel sent down by the Lord himself! An angel with blood upon his hands… but an angel nonetheless! He is more glorious than anything put together in the history of the world! No – more glorious than anything from the beginning of time! No- even before that! If thou were to combine the sun, the moon, the stars to create a glowing mesh of splendour - the latter mesh would be dulled and obliterated by the beauty of my lord! Romeo, my heart’s desire. Even though he kil …. NO! I shall not think wrong of him! What if it had been he, to fall under the wrath of Tybalts blade, as so many have done before! His body tangled on the ground, blood oozing from his wounds! AAARGH! The pain is unbearable! I cannot live without him – but I would have thought the same about Tybalt if I had never met Romeo, God forbid! But if I’d never met Romeo... maybe Tybalt would not have been slain and Romeo would not have been banished! Oh! It can’t be my doing that has caused all of this! It can’t be! Tybalt – Romeo-Tybalt – Romeo! Who to choose?! King of Cats or Lord of Light? What to do, what to do! Romeo! Where art thou? I need you here! To comfort me. Come comfort me! Romeo HAS to come he has to! He will come! Today we got married! He has to come! ROMEO! He is my soul! My life, my love! And to think, if he does not come we shall not set eyes on each other again, for he is banished! That cannot happen! Tybalt gone, Romeo gone! My world is meaningless without them. I can hear a scraping outside my balcony. Probably a tree trying to take down the rope ladder. I wouldn’t be surprised if it succeeds. The stars themselves are against me and my lord, it is a miracle that one of us has not died yet! Oh my, there is quite a loud sound out yonder window. I’ll check what it is…. It’s ROMEO!!!
