The skeletal system
The human skeleton is made up of fused and individual bones, which are supported by muscles, tendons, ligaments, and cartilege. It supports organs such as, the brain, lungs, and heart. In development, flat bones of the skull and the clavicles, are formed by conective tissue. When you are first born, you start with 270 bones, and as you age into an adult you have 206 bones. Also when youre a new born, your bones are made of cartilage.
While the body ages, your skeleton does as well.
The appendicular skeleton is connected to the axial skeleton. The axial skeleton has 80 bones all together, 26 of those bones comes from the vertebral column. Another 24 bones comes from the ribs (Thoracic cage) and the sternum., 2 more comes from the skull, and 7 more, associated bones.
The skeletal system is organized into the axial and appendicular skeletons.
One of the functions of the skeleton is, that the skeleton provides framework for the body, and it helps the body keep it shape. If the ribs, costal cartilages, and the muscles, the lungs would completly collapse.
The skeleton has six main functions.
