Before the Storm
Even before the actual genocide of the Kurds started, they were oppressed. The Kurds were forced out of the country, had their villages burned to the ground, and were slaughtered over the slightest break of rules.
The Iraq-Iran war that was occuring set the field, it allowed the Iraqis to get away with genocide and simply blame it on Iranians.
Under the rule of Saddam Hussein, the Kurds lost all rights in this country. They had no power, and were constantly under threats by the government.
Powerless, about 1 million Kurds were forcibly evacuated from their villages with nothing, then watched their villages burn down.
