Known as the greatest Jazz musician
Armstrong had a rough childhood and grew up in poverty. He helped his mother by doing odd jobs to bring in money.
Joe ''King'' Oliver, another musician bought Armstrong his first real cornet and began instructing him on how to play the instrument.
Louis Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901. He was born in New Orleans and grew up in poverty. In order to help his family, Armstrong did odd jobs to earn money. At age twelve he was sent to reform school after firing a gun into the air on New Years Eve. While in reform school Armstrong learned to play the coronet which is an instrument similar to the trumpet. He was released from reform school at the age of fourteen and he continued to listen to bands at local clubs. He met a man name Joe ''King'' Oliver who begane teaching Armstrong on playing the coronet. Armstrong played in many different bands throught the years and he traveled around the world spreading his music to all the places he visited. He eventually returned to the States and renamed his band Louis Armstrong and his Orchestra. He became a star throughout America while his band toured. In the 1940s, the American public began to lose it's interest in Jazz. The Louis Armstrong Orchestra eventually disbabded in 1947 and the even more famous Louis Armstrong Allstars emerged. Armstrong has many hits, but he is most know for ''What a Wonderful World.'' Sadly Louis Armstrong died on July 6, 1971 in Queens, New York.
