Computer Networks
- A network is two or more computers connected together. - Computers can communicate to each other through a network.
There are two types of network: - Local Area Network. - Wide Area Netowrk.
Star Networks: - Are used with a large number of workstations connected to a central computer. Line Networks: - Data is sent to and from the line serever through a line cable. Ring Networks: - Equipment is linked in a ring
Physical Security for the Hardware: - Serial numbers: keep record of all serial numbers and mark the organistaion's name and post code on all eqipment to identify them if they are stolen. - Alarms: computers rooms should have burglar alarms. - Doors: should be locked when the rooms are not used. - Fire protection: use smoke alarms and gas flooking systems to prevent damge to the equipment.
Access Security: - All users should have user names and passwords of their own to limit unauthorises access to the network. - Users should change their password with frequency.
Data Security: - Software and files can be protected with password which would be needed to view and alter data. -You can hide or make read only the files so they are not deleted altered or visible for the user.
