Landscape Architects
About Landscape Architects: Landscape architects (or also called landscape designers)design outdoor areas so that they are both attractive to the eye and able to be used easily. For example, most public parks would not be nearly as beautiful or well laid out without the work of landscape architects. Nearly any outdoor public place in relatively close proximity to moderately populated areas has been worked on by landscape architects.
Preparation: A landscape architect must possess certain skills and interests in order for the job to work. Creativity is certainly a necessary skill for a landscape architect; being able to visualize what a certain work will look like as well. A decent knowledge of geometry is extremely important. A landscape architet also needs skills involving other people. For anyone who is interested in becoming a landscape architect, there are several high school electives that are good preparationfor a career in lanscape design. Some obvious electives are Art, Computer-Assisted Drawing(CAD), and Horticulture. Many landscape architects are likely to start their own businesses, so some other courses that would be helpful to take include Accounting, Entrepreneurship, and Introduction to Business. A College degree is not always a requirement to get a job in this area, but 88% of lanscape architects have a bachelor's degree of higher.* Only 2% of landscape architects have less high school education, GED, or an appreniceship.* The other 10% have only some college education(including accossiates degree).* *Statistics are from National data for architects, except naval (SOC 17-1010).
