Hunting Today we saw him. We arrived late. Joseph, Rebeccah and I. Adrenaline bubbled inside me; my every sense was aroused. This was it. The final chance. The stuff of legends. The throng writhed with suspense. A continuous flow of new arrivals forced their way to the front of the arena. We followed, taking full advantage of the brawn of older teens. Best seats in the house. Right at the foot of the action. A story worth telling the grandchildren. Struggling to keep my place, I was lifted high into the air for a second, just a second, but a second long enough to see the barred off front of the stage, mounted by armoured security. The iron gates vibrated but never moved, despite the pressure of withholding what now must have been... too many to count. As many as there are leaves on a forest of palm trees, and, like leaves, we were swishing, swaying and swinging in the wind. Bodies pushed. My unique, lifted vantage point ended as I was jolted back to the earth. Issac and Rebeccah wrestled me up, horrified. They flicked the sandal-trodden sand from my face. And I remembered who we were there to see.

By then, the thief had been called for, had been set free but He had remained. Were we, the crowd hungry, not even every morsel of meat on the Antelope of the south could have satisfied us; were we poor, not even an armada of Nicean barks, travelling like spear brought enough gold to raise us from our poverty; were we cold, not even the cloak of the Tetrarch- said to be hemmed with the flame of the sun could keep us warm. We were not hungry, not poor, and not cold; we were angry. ‘Blood!’ One bellowed. ‘Revenge!’ Chorused several. ‘Traitor, liar thief, blasphemer, sinner, filthy one…’ the list grew. ‘Save yourself if you can! Or better yet, get Daddy to help,’ I noticed the Levii of Judea scream. The soldiers, drunk on the crowd’s cheers, giggled to themselves. Kicked and struck the blood-drenched man between their shield casings. Time was not important. Only power. The power of delighting a crazed pack. The first nail hit a hand. There might have been a scream from the victim. There must have been. The pain was surely too much?

I held my concentration long enough to hear two more hefty thuds, but I could not make out any reply from the captive, any sense of a struggle.too much afraid to jeer and call, so we watched in gruesome disbelief as the crucifix was lifted into the air. Time was not important. Only power. People began to leave, bustling in star-struck joviality. Through turning heads I spied the crumpled body of the hottest celeb of the season. Somehow, He didn’t seem like the famous magician any more. He’d lost his glamour, his swagger, his refusal to obey. I thought, or perhaps I imagined I thought, that the man slung before my eyes was just someone who had been caught up in something special; something above teen obsession or Gossip’s latest fad; something greater even than lecturing priests and snarling Romans. Then a gentle shove from Joseph and I knew it was time to leave.

i guess it's the contrast of ancient and modern brought together and the mixture of events all in one. i don't know i'm no critic or writer. it's good though i'm not saying it's not it's just like i said i can't quite put my finger on it it's different but that's good. the writing style is good it's just the contrast. i guess it's like reading something and it's good but it's hard to read because there is so much and it's so different from things people put in books. if the whole book was like it it would be a lot to take in. like reading shakespeare or chaucer or even bronte for the first time the words are different.
