What did they wear?
What were their daily lives like?
Where did Hopi Indians Live?
Fun Facts!
Hopi means '' peaceful person'' or ''civilized person''. The Hopi people currently live on a reservation and have their own government, laws, police staion, etc. The Hopis do pottery, basket weaving and make dolls. Many of this still goes on today.
What did they eat?
The Hopi Indians lived in what is currently northwestern Arizona. They lived in adobe houses, which are multi-storied house complexes made of adobe. Each Hopi unit was home to one family, much like the modern day apartment. They would use ladders to get to higher ''apartments''.
The Hopi indians were excellent farmers. They planted beans, corn, squash, cotton, and even tabbaco! They also raised turkey, which they ate. They hunted too.
The Hopi indians' men traditionally wore a breechcloth, like a loincloth. Women wore knee length cotton dresses called mantas. Mantas draped over one shoulder and left the other one bare. Because of this some ministries encouraged the women to wear blouses under these dresses. Currently the people of the Hopi Tribe just wear modern clothes.
Hopi women were generally in charge of the home and family. Men took care of politics, agriculture, and war. Men and women participated in medicine, art, music, and storytelling. Though tribe leaders were generally male. Hopi children played with each other, went to school, and helped around the house.
