Q: How did they come to the Americas? A: The Mayans migrated from Mexico to the Americas, though some stayed in Mexico.

Q: Name what you belive to be their greatest accomplishment. A: We beleive their Mayan Calender to be their greatest accomplishment because it helped record time.
Q: Describe the climate and physical features where they lived. How did the environment influence their choices of building materials and food? A: They lived in a forest with flat land. This influenced their choice of building materials beacuse they had much wood from the forest to build houses. Their enviornment influenced their choice of food because they had fertile land to grow crops.
Q: How did they communicate? Did they have a written language? A: They did communicate with other tribes and Mayans. They also had a written language that used many symbols.
Q: What were the roles of women in the tribe? What were the roles of children in the tribe? A: The women and older girls helped prepare meals, raise younger children, and make family clothes. The children would help with either their mother or father depending on gender. So a boy would help his father with farming and hunting and a girl would help her mom with the above.
Q: How did they build homes? What materials did they use in building homes? Were they settled in communities, or were they nomads living in temporary homes? A: They did not live in temporary homes, they were NOT nomads. They settled in communities with other Mayans. They lived in houses made from poles lashed together with grass or palm leaves as the roof.
Q: What type of recreation did they enjoy? A: They enjoyed doing arts and crafts and religious festivals.
Q: How was the tribe organized? Who made the rules? How were the leaders chosen? Describe one of their leaders. A: The tribe was led by a leader who was chosen becuase he is a desendant of the original leader. The Mayan leaders in general did many things such as control the Mayan city. They also performed the religious sacrifices. They pricked their tongues to sacrifice to the gods.
Q: Did they have a religion? What were some of their beliefs? Did they perform sacrifices? If so, what kind of sacrafices and why? A: The Mayans DID have a religion. They beleived in sacrifices and many gods and godesses. They sacrificed deer, dogs, and turkey for their gods to eat. They sometimes even offered their own blood.
Q: What did they trade? With whom did they trade? A: The Mayans traded with other Native American Tribes in America. They traded handicrafts, forest and sea products, caocao beans, jaguar pelts, obsidion, and jade.
Q: What types of arts and crafts did they produce? A: The Mayans made pottery, paintings and sculptures. They also made murals on walls with bright colors, usually featuring lifelike pictures of battles and festivals. They also produced architecture.
Q: What food did they eat? Did they raise crops? Did they hunt animals? Did they follow herds. A: Yes the Mayans farmed and hunted. They mainly grew beans, corn, squash. They hunted armidillos, deer, rabbits, peccaries, and other wild animals.They did hunt but they also raised turkeys and honey bees. They did not follow herds.
Chichen Itza (shown above) was the most powerful Mayan city between 900 A.D and 1200 A.D in Mexico. It is a tall limestone pryamid that had a temple on top.
