The Six Simple Machines
A lever is a simple machine that rests on a support called a fulcrum. The lever is made up of three parts called the effort, resistance, and the fulcrum. The positions of these parts causes the separation of classes or groups. There are three classes called first, second, and third class. These simple machines help us every day by raising or lifting heavy loads. Some examples of levers are hammers, crow bars, and bottle openers. Another simple machine is the inclined plane. An inclined plane is a slanting surface connecting a lower level to higher one or the other way around. They help us by not using much effort to reach a higher or lower level. Examples of inclined planes are slides, ramps, and slanted roads.

A wedge is a simple machine .The wedge is made up of two inclined planes and meet at a sharp edge. The wedge helps people everyday by separating two objects. Some examples of wedges are knives, axes, and nails. Another type of simple machine is the screw. A screw helps people by lowering and raising things. They are also used to hold things together. Screws also have ridges. Examples of screws are jars, light bulbs, and key rings.

The wheel and axle is another simple machine. The axle is a rod that goes through the wheel. This helps it turn. wheels and axles help people everyday by moving things place to place. Examples of wheels and axles are doorknobs, roller skates, and clocks. Another simple machine is the pulley. It is made up of a rope and a wheel. The rope fits into the grove of the pulley. The rope is attached to the load. So, when you pull the pulley, the wheel turns and the load will move. Pulleys help people by moving things to hard to reach places and lifting heavy loads. Some examples of pulleys are flag poles, blinds, and cranes.
