The Technological 2000's 2000-2008
Spygate was an incident between the New England Patriots and the NF:L in the 2007 season.. It proposed that the Patriots had been secretly videotaping some of their opponents. Bill Belichick was the head of the operation as the head coach. The credibility of the team and the coach has been destroyed.
September 11, 2001 was a terrible day in America. Four planes hijacked by terrorists crashed, killing nearly 3,000 people. Two of the planes crashed into the World Trade Centers, one into the Pentagon, and another into a small field in Pennsylvania. It may have been destined for the White House. The Al-Queda took responsibility for these attacks, sparking the global war on terror.
Hurricane Katrina was one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the United States. It caused severe damage in the southern states, mainly in Louisiana. Around 1,800 people were killed in the hurricane, with devastation throughout New Orleans, It is still in a rebuilding process following this enormous disaster.
The Columbia space shuttle disaster was the second disaster ever for space shuttles. The entire crew of 7 were killed when the vehicle malfunctioned on landing. Sent to work on experiments, the shuttle carried the 1st ever Israeli in space. NASA has had to make some changes to prevent this from happening again.
Saddam Hussein, the longtime president of Iraq, was executed in late 2006. He had been in hiding for a couple of years as he knew he was going to face severe consequences for acts he had committed while in office, including ordered murder. He was convicted and hanged.
Lance Armstrong won an incredible 7 Tour de France's in a row, spanning from 1999-2005. He overcame testicular cancer to succeed in cycling. He retired in 2006.
Anthrax cases broke out in the United States in 2001. Mysterious packages showed up in the mail, and when opened, could kill. 5 people total were killed in the escapade, with 17 others being infected. This showed how vulnerable the postal service really was.
Nickelback, a small Canadian band, became a sensation in the decade. Their hard rock sound is very unique, and led to celebrity status. They are a mainstay at the top of the charts with hits like ''Rockstar,'' ''Someday,'' and ''How You Remind Me.''They will continue to turn out hits for years to come.
The Global War on Terror was launched by President George Bush in order to try and eliminate all terroristic threats, especially those in the Middle East. The War on Terror is still going today, despite losing most of the support for it. The war was launched shortly after September 11th.
The Mitchell Report was wrote in 2007 as part of a steroid investigation into baseball. George Mitchell, a U.S. senator, wrote a report on the investigation he had made into steroid allegations. The report used interviews of suppliers and named a total of 89 players, including Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens.
