There has been disputes as to whether the Torch was used in the Ancient Olympics. Some say the torch relay was used for other athletic festivities, however NOT in the Olympics.
Traditions and Symbols of the Ancient Olympics
The athletes of the Ancient Olympics received an olive wreath at Olympia. When they returned to their hometown they were given more profitable rewards: Plutarch, an Olympic victor, recieved 500 drachmai, a fortune.
Although technically not introduced until the modern Olympics, the five rings represent everything the Ancient Olympics were about: the diversity in the athletes' backgrounds, unity, and competition.
