Lord of the Flies
By: Molly O'Brien, Jenna Aswad, Dan Feldman, Morgan Walker, Kelly Sennott
In Golding's Lord of the Flies, the images of light and darkness are used to compare and contrast the ideas of savagery and civilization.
''Hands were reaching for the conch in the light of the setting sun,'' (81).
''The conch glimmered among the trees, a white against the place where the sun would rise,'' (124).
''As long as there's light we're brave enough,'' (125).
''At night, in the darkness, and stole our fire,'' (170).
''They say the beastie came in the dark,'' (36).
''It was dark there was that, that bloody dance,'' (153).
