HOW TO SAVE YOUR LIFE The judges were good Puritans, therefore, if a person admitted to being a witch, the judges would see this as a sign of ''regeneration'' and ''turning away'' from witchcraft. The judges were merciful with people who confessed, making their punishment less severe. If they gave the court names of other witches, the court would reduce their punishment in some cases. Many Puritans did not admit to being a witch because they wanted to stay true to themselves and their beliefs, therefore few of the accused were allowed to live. (''Gale Discovering Collection'')

PROBLEMS WITH THE SYSTEM After many accusations and killings of witches, the court seemed to loose the support of many villagers. Eventually, people whom nobody could fathom to be a witch were accused. This caused much fret in the village. Near the end of the witch accusations, the accused began forgiving their accusers and the judges, which showed many villagers that they weren't witches. It seemed as if the court was doing more harm for the village than good. (''Gale Discovering Collection'')
