Indium was discovered by Ferdinand Reich, Hieronymus Theodor Richter at 1863 in Germany. It was found and spectroscopically identified as a minor component in zincores. Until 1924, a gram or so
constituted the world's supply of this element in isolated form. In fact, it is probably about as abundant as silver.

Used in making bearing alloys, germanium transistors, rectifiers, thermistors, and photoconductors Forms a mirror as good as those made with silver, but with more resistance to atmospheric corrosion
