The Republic of Maldives
The Republic of Maldives is situated in the Indian Ocean to the southwest of India and Sri Lanka, to the south of the Asian continent. The Maldives are composed of 1.196 islands of which only 203 are inhabited. The only real border is with the Indian territory of Lakshadweep at the north, but they are closest to the British Indian Ocean Territory, a group of islands situated to south of the Maldives. The capital of the Republic of Maldives is called Male and the national anthem is called Gaumii Salaam.. Its official language is Divehi. The climate is tropical and humid. The system of government is a presidential republic. Its currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa and its religion is Islamism.
The independence of the Maldives from the United Kingdom was obtained in 1965. Since then the Maldives have been a presidential republic in which the president is Mohamed Nasheed.The president is elected for five years.

The cuisine of Maldives is full of fish and seafood, while vegetables are used as fillings. The islands are rich in exotic fruits like bananas, pineapples, coconuts and others. The people from Maldives serves fish, in almost every meal of the day. Numerous meals are served with roshi which is a local bread and it's cooked on a hot griddle.
