Polytheism is meant to worship the gods. Polytheism they still do today. Polytheism was a worldwide system and the Egyptians had a highly developed system that was based on many gods of ancient Egypt. Egyptian religion is based on polytheism just like when we go to church or a synagogue. They worshiped hundreds and hundreds of gods and they were mostly men you usually don’t see women being a god. The earliest people we know were all polytheistic and worshiped gods from the 300 B.C. to 539 B.C. Many other parts of Egypt worshiped the same type of god but had a different type of culture. The most important god was Ea. Further west of the coast of the Mediterranean Sea were also polytheistic.
The Egyptians believed that when someone dies they would enter the kingdom of the god Osiris. To get in the kingdom you had to go to trail to decide if you lived a good life when you were on Earth. If you got in you were rewarded with happiness, but if you did not get in you would be punished. They placed the Book of the Dead in the person tomb to guide them through dangers that awaited them in the next world. If the person did not make it in they would be eaten by a horrible scary monster.
Many people in ancient Egypt believed in many different god and goddesses. Each god played as an important role for an Egyptians life. Some gods made the Nile flood every year, some offered protection, and some took care of people after they died. One of the most important gods to the Egyptians was the sun god re. The Egyptians thought that without the sun god re they would not be able to live. For some towns of ancient Egypt they had one certain god that protected them from bad things from happening.
Mummies and the process of mummification had a lot to do with how much the Egyptians knew about the human body. The Egyptians believed that when they died on Earth they would have an afterlife. They believed that the body of the dead person had to be in good condition in order for the soul to live. So that the dead person could travel to the afterlife, the Egyptians made sure they treated the bodies with great care and kept them as close to the same as possible. The Egyptians must have understood a lot about the internal body parts because they knew they would rot before the outside body parts would rot. Because of this they developed a way of preserving the body that was advanced for their period of time.
