BACKGROUND (BEFORE WAR) •Relations with Iran seriously deteriorated in the period following the Iranian Islamic revolution of 1979. Cross-border incidents resulted in Iraq invading Iran and in a full outbreak of war on 22 September 1980. •Iraq war also known as the Second Gulf War, the Occupation of Iraq, or Operation Iraqi Freedom •Started March 20, 2003 with the invasion of Iraq •George Bush - U.S.A. •Before the war, Iraq was accused by the U.S, Spain, and U.K of having WMD (weapons of mass destruction) that threatened their security and alliances •Only concluded that they didn’t have a WMD by 1991 •Some U.S officials accused Saddam Hussein of supporting Al-Qaeda (an international terrorist network led by Osama bin Laden) •Other reasons that U.S officials had for the invasion was Iraq's financial support for the families of Palestinian suicide bombers, Iraqi government human rights abuses, and an effort on the part of the coalition forces to spread democracy in the country and region and the oil reserves Iraq had. •Execution of Saddam Hussein after the invasion •Saddam Hussein- Iraq
