The 14th and 15th Ammendment allowed for blacks to be more accepted and more of a part of society. Althought many things prevented them from being totally accepted: they still had to work under the whites as sharecroppers and they had to deal with black laws that disable them from using their freedom.
People called, Carpetbaggers, were Northerners who moved south to gain political and financal gain.. President Johnson used this time to reconstruct by making Confederate states meet certain requirements to join the Union. The 14th and 15th Amendments were passed finally giving blacks the rights they deserved.. Grant took advantage of the political situation by using it to get the black vote by promising to protectAfrican Americans. Blacks were now more involved in politics and were elected to Congreess.
Under Johnson's reconstruction war debts were canceled. Although blacks were freed they most were in poverty because they were sharecroppers who were in debt of the land owners. Carpetbaggers used this time to gain financial status. New taxes allowed for new schools and hospitals and improvements for public transportation.
