Eukaryotic cells have organelles, each with a specific function within the cell. Animal cells lack some plant cells’ organelles, while some plant cells lack some animal cells’ organelles.
Eukaryotic cells have a nucleus and many organelles in their cytoplasm, unlike prokaryotic cells.
Eukaryotic Cells
More Structures of Cells Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum– Rough ER makes more membrane. and modifies proteins that will be transported to other parts of the cell. Centriole – Centrioles are only in animal cells, and they help with cell division. Golgi Apparatus – The structure that receives and modifies substances manufactured by the ER. Central Vacuole – The central vacuole is only in plant cells. It helps the plant cell grow in size by absorbing water and it stores chemicals and waste. Chloroplasts - The photosynthesizing organelles only in the plant cells, which create energy for the cell. Mitochondria - Mitochondrion carry out cellular respiration in nearly all eukaryotic cells, converting chemical energy of foods such as sugars to ATP. Cytoskeleton- The “skeleton” that extends throughout the cytoplasm of a cell and provides support . It is also involved in some cell movement.
Organelles of Cellls Cytoplasm – The fluid filled region between the nucleus and the plasma membrane. Cellular Membrane – A thin layer in animal cells that protects a cell from its surroundings and acts as a barrier. Cell Walls – The walls of a plant cell that provide support and protection for the cell. It’s similar to the cellular membrane. Nucleus - The organelle that contains DNA and controls the cell’s activities. Nucleolus – A structure in the nucleus that produces the “building blocks” of ribosomes, which is the RNA. Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum – Smooth ER lacks ribosomes, synthesizes lipids, and stores calcium ions. Flagellum – A long kind of “tail” that helps the cell move around that's only found in animal cells.
