Color Blindness
By: Kiersten L.
Our eyes see color because of the cones located in the center of the retina. These cones contain a pigment that is sensitive to light. They are sensitive to the different wavelengths of visible light. Each of these cones has genes, which contain instructions for the pigments. If these instructions are wrong, the wrong pigment is produced causing different wavelengths to be seen. As a result, the eyes will see different colors.
MISCONCEPTION
Color blindness isn't the absence of color. It is extremely rare to see in just black and white.
Deuteranomaly
This affects one out of one hundred males. Someone with this color deficiency sees the color red more weakly than someone without it. The colors red, orange, yellow, and yellow-green look more green and are paler. They might not be able to even detect the colors lavender and violet and only see blue.
Protanomaly (“red-weakness”)
This affects five out of one hundred males. Someone with this color deficiency is “green weak”. They see the colors red, orange, yellow, and green as more red. These people do not have a problem with a change in brightness.
Protanopia
This affects one out of one hundred males. Someone with this color deficiency sees red, orange, and yellow with reduced brightness. Sometimes, reds can even been see as black or grey. These males see most violet, lavender, and purple as just blue. They can only really distinguish reds, yellows, and greens because of the brightness of each.

The person that put this picture up says he can not tell the difference between these pictures. He can only tell the difference in the red cannon.
This picture shows how people with different color deficiencies see the same picture.
Color blindness test People with color deficiencies can not make out the numbers in these pictures.
