Hey, lets go on a hot air balloon ride!! Sounds Funn!
Hot Air Balloons
Quick, think of something that man travels in the air with. You probably thought of an airplane or a helicopter but man also travels in hot air balloons. Hot air balloons go back all the way to 1783 when Pilatre De Rozier launched the first hot air balloon. The passengers were a sheep, a duck, and rooster according to Eballoon.org. Today hot air ballooning is well known. But how does it work? How can you get a balloon to float in the air?
The physics behind hot air balloon travel is the increase and decrease of temperature of the moving molecules. The temperature change will also change the density of the gas. A hot air balloon floats in the air because the hot air balloon its self is submerged in cooler air therefore the balloon now has a buoyant force acting on it that is greater than the Fg. The way you control going up and down in a hot air balloon is temperature of the molecules which is controlled by a flame. The balloon is filled with helium gas. When the molecules are moving very rapidly in a hot air balloon the balloon will rise due to the increased temperature. The balloon goes down when you release some of the hot air. The direction is controlled by the wind. The movie and images are good for a visual.
