Born at the end of an era in which luxury seemed reserved only for the happy few, Dior again revolutionized the world of fashion by introducing ready-to-wear.
''The Gentle Dictator'' was what German fashion journalist Charlotte Seeiing called fashion god Christian Dior. After his death in 1957, other designers adopted the famous couture house and his great name.
After the war, he helped to re-establish Paris as the capital of world-fashion . Dior became the last great dictator of style in the 1950s. Each collection throughout this period had a theme - classic suits, ballerina-length skirts, the H-line in 1954, and A- and Y-lines in 1955.
