He brought people together(squads of arditi) to sieze the French government at Rome. He then took his facist party and joined the parliamentary National coalition of Giolitti and won. After the arditi seizing, the king didn't want any fighting, so he made him Prime Minister.

Why to hate him?
He maintained power by picking out personally himself the newspaper editors. So noone would be able to go against him. And you also had to swear under oath. To make sure they don't go against him.
His main goal was to take over Italy.
