Melinda's primary communications with her parents occured in the form of Post-It Notes where they reported on their whereabouts and household responsibilities--not a very connected family.
Melinda found inspiration and support in Maya Angelou's work. because she identified with issues of abuse and ostracization.. Because she could not stand to look at herself in the mirror of the janitor's closet in which she took refuge, she covered it with a poster of Maya Angelou.
