+ 1852-Made a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England + 1857-Wrote ''An Essay on the Early Stages of Inflammation'' + 1860 -Made Professor of Surgery at the University of Glasglow +1865 -has his first success treating a fracture using carbolic acid + 1870 -publishes ''A Method of Antiseptic Treatment Applicable to Wounded Soldiers in the Present War.'' +1877 -Appointed Chair of Surgery at King's College +1883 -knighted by Queen Victoria. +1897 -appointed secretaryship of the Royal Society. + 1891 -Formed the Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine and was chairman.
