Pol Pot formed a communist peasant farming society, which resulted in the disposal of approximately 25% of the population.
In 1962, Pol Pot became the leader of the Cambodian Communist Party. He was forced to flee to the jungle to escape the wrath of the Camdodian leader Prince Norodan Sihanouk. Who in 1970 joined forces with Pot, because he was outed by U.S. right-wing military coup.
The farms, now known as the killing fields were used for the mass murder of the minority groups of Cambodia. These included Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai people as well as the Cham Muslim and Christian peoples. These people suffered interrogation, torture, and execution.
