Shelter Model Project
Materials: Construction Paper Cardboard Markers Scissors Glue Sticks Hot Glue Gun Yarn Paint Tape
Assignment: The students were placed in five groups of five. They pretended to be a family living in the 1800s in the western states of America. The students were given the materials to build a "home" for their family to live in. They loved getting to design their own log cabins. The students presented their log cabins to the class and told the class how they would spend their days if they lived during this time period.
Here is a picture of one group's log cabin. They rolled up pieces of brown construction paper and hot glued them together to form the walls of the cabin. Next, they made a roof out of cardboard and painted it dark brown. This group used popsicle sticks to create a window.
Amelia Earhart Paper Doll Activity
In class this week, we learned about famous Americans. We focused on Amelia Earhart one day. We made a KWL Chart about her and saw a PowerPoint Presentation on her life. Next, the students created paper doll versions of Amelia Earhart. We even gave her goggles and an airplane! Click in this yellow box to check out the rubric, KWL Chart, and my lesson plan!
