For Whom The Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemmingway
Summary- For Whom The Bell Tolls takes place in the 1940's during the Spanish Civil War. The war was raging throughout the country throughout the 1930's. Robert Jordan and Anselmo talk about the war and religion. Robert is willing to kill people if he has to, but Anselmo is not. Robert Jordan joins the war after he leaves America and he meets Pablo the leader of the Guerilla leader, they have a mutual relationship; other than that he preatty much hates Robert Jordan. All of the conflicts of the book usually have to do with Robert Jordan because he is the main character of the novel. Robert Jordan is considered a threat to the Guerillas in Pablo's eyes. Robert Jordan's mission is to blow up the facists bridge to stop their ways of going across to the war. When he is lead by Ansel,mo they meet everyone at the camp. The Guerrillas refuse to help Robert Jordan in his miision because he thinks it endagers their saftey.
Characters- Robert Jordan- Protaganist, he leaves his job and joins the Republican side of the war. He was a college professor. Pablo- Leader of the Guerrilla band. He is very irresponsible and is highly unpredictable. Pilar- She organizes the guerrilleros’ short alliance with El Sordo. She is a manipulator pushes somethings a little far. She keeps the plot going. Maria- Robert Jordan's lover. She was raped and lost alot of hair.
Review- This was overall a good book and was very detailed. I feel that it was hard to follow at some points of the book. I would recommend this to anyone interested in war or a good love story.
