She walked to his house, a small skip in her step. It was their one year anniversary and they had made special plans tonight. Very special. Her ballet flats hit the pavement as she looked at her appearance in the window of a parked car. Just a few little touch ups. She continued to walk until she reached his house and knocked on the door. Biting her lip she waited, her hands clasped in front of her. The door creaked open and he stood there looking behind him and laughing. He was doing up his pants. He turned and shock and fear as he shut the door slightly and spoke extra loudly. "hey babe" Puzzlement crossed over her face as she pushed the door open and hugged him. Looking over his shoulder she saw a girl peeking around the corner from the kitchen and she pulled back. "What have you been up to?" she looked directly at the girl but spoke to him. He struggled to come up with an excuse as he rubbed the back of his head eventually giving in.

His words struck her like he had physically slapped her. She took a step back as he reached out for her hand. The girl walked forward and wrapped her arms around his waist pulling him back to her.
Her vision distorted as tears rolled down her face and she heard the girl speak, well thought she heard her. She staggered down the stairs and shook her head. "If I come back later it will all be okay. This was just not true. He didn't mean it." She started to run as the rain started to trickle down , her hair stuck to the back of her neck and she had lost a shoe but she didn’t care. Her make up began to run down her face but she didn't care. She ran as fast as she could not knowing where she was going and really not caring either. Stopping, her chest heaved as she struggled to control her breathing. Looking up she noticed it was dark and the rain was coming down heavier now but she didn’t care. Her world had crashed when he said those five little words. She loved him and he could do that to her? She wrapped her arms around her chest as she leant against a tree. Her tears mixed with the rain running down her face and she looked at her clothes and thought how pathetic it was that she had almost given in to him. Noticing her missing shoe she laughed out aloud to herself. She hung her head and let her hair fall in front of her face so no-one could see her. Not like anyone was looking anyway.
