Sahara has a difficult year ahead of her. Being held back for a second year of the fifth grade, she is given a fresh start and a fresh new teacher to make her year a success. Even though Sahara knows there is a thick file about her and her 'special needs', her new teacher Miss Pointy does not use paper to learn about her students. By getting to know the students and giving them a chance to flourish, the classroom becomes open for learning and exploration. As time goes on, Sahara is able to become the one thing she desires most: to become a writer.
